Post-Partum Doula

I support families like yours during the precious weeks and months after a baby arrives. My goal is to nurture you, so you can focus on nurturing your little one. I offer personalized support to make your transition into parenthood feel a little less overwhelming and a lot more joyful.

  • Our Initial Consultation

The first step is a free consultation, which is a wonderful opportunity for us to connect. During our call, I want to hear all about your expectations and what kind of support you envision for your postpartum period. We'll discuss your specific needs, and I'll explain the many ways I can assist you, your family, and your partner. This is a chance for us to get to know each other, for you to ask any questions you have, and to determine if I am the right fit to support you through this special time.

  • Scheduling Our Time Together

Once we've decided to move forward, we'll work together to create a schedule that fits your needs. We'll discuss the ideal dates and times for my visits, whether you're looking for daytime or overnight support, and how many hours you anticipate needing. This flexibility ensures that the support you receive is tailored to your unique situation, giving you peace of mind and the exact help you need, right when you need it.

  • Feeling Supported

My greatest goal is for you to feel completely supported. When I arrive for a visit, you can simply tell me what feels most important for that day. It might be preparing a nutritious meal, holding your baby so you can nap, helping with light tidying, or simply offering a listening ear. The most important thing is that you feel seen, heard, and cared for, allowing you to focus on your recovery and on bonding with your new baby.

Placenta Capsules

The primary reported benefits often revolve around supporting a smoother and more balanced postpartum recovery. Many individuals report experiencing increased energy levels, a more stable mood, and an overall sense of greater well-being during the fourth trimester.

  • (Optional) Tell us about your due date

The first step is a no-commitment message. Simply let me know your due date, and I'll make a note of it turning it into one less item on your to-do list. Around two weeks before your due date, I'll check in with you to see how you're feeling and to provide detailed instructions for what to do when you go into labor. This gives you plenty of time to make a final decision and ensures we are both ready for the big day.

  • Schedule pickup

Once your baby is born, you or your partner can reach out to me to arrange for the placenta pick-up. I know how important it is to get this done quickly, so I will come directly to your birth location, whether that's your home, a hospital, or a birth center. We'll find a time that's convenient for you and get the process started as soon as possible, so you can focus on bonding with your new little one.

  • Schedule delivery

After I have prepared your placenta, I will personally deliver the finished capsules to you, typically within 24-48 hours. When I drop them off, I will also provide you with clear instructions on how to take them, along with any other information you might find relevant. This ensures you have everything you need to begin your postpartum recovery with confidence, and I'll be here to answer any questions you may have along the way.

Testimonials

Ariel Jao

Isabel was our night doula and she was tremendously helpful, especially as we were new parents navigating postpartum for the first time. We would look forward to the nights Isabel would come over just so we can get some rest. It's always tough to trust a new person to take care of your baby but Isabel was extremely professional and reassured us that she would take care of everything. As a parent and experienced doula, she was able to get our newborn to sleep/feed/burp (probably better than we were able to if I'm honest 😅)

Katie Gawick

Brila and Isabel who cared for me and my baby girl were absolutely wonderful. They were incredibly knowledgeable and patient, teaching me so much as a new mom while always making me feel comfortable and supported. Most importantly, they cared for my daughter with such attentiveness and love that I had complete peace of mind. Their guidance and knowledge gave me confidence, and I am so grateful for the invaluable care they provided.

I would give more than 5 stars if they were available! I reached out to Austin Birth Company to get the help of a night doula for the first few weeks with our new born. We were blessed with Isable, that kindly helped us navigate this new chapter on our lives. Isabel not only took care of our new baby but also helped us understand her needs and to be prepared for the next chapter.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

A postpartum doula provides non-medical support to a family after the birth of their baby. This includes offering evidence-based information on newborn care and feeding, helping with light household tasks like laundry or meal prep, and providing a listening ear for your emotional and mental well-being. Think of me as a knowledgeable and compassionate guide who helps you find your footing and feel more confident as a parent.

My role is to support you in caring for your baby so you can rest and recover. I can offer guidance on things like soothing techniques, diapering, and swaddling. I can also help you with feeding, whether you're breastfeeding, bottle-feeding, or a combination of both. My goal is to empower you to feel confident in your own parenting instincts while offering a helping hand and reliable information whenever you need it.

Many families find it helpful to book a postpartum doula while they're still pregnant, often in the second or third trimester. This gives us time to connect and plan for your specific needs. However, it's never too late to reach out! I've also been hired by families who are already home with their newborn and realize they could use some extra support. The key is to start the conversation whenever you feel it's right for you.

Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing your placenta into a powder and placing it into capsules for you to take postpartum. The process involves gently cleaning and dehydrating the placenta before grinding it into a fine powder. My process follows strict safety guidelines, including using sterile equipment and proper sanitization protocols, to ensure the finished product is handled with the utmost care. The capsules are then delivered to you with clear instructions for use.

Families who choose placenta encapsulation often report a range of potential benefits. While scientific research is still ongoing, many people believe that taking the capsules can help with a smoother postpartum recovery. Some of the benefits that have been anecdotally reported by families I've worked with include increased energy, a more balanced mood, and a feeling of greater well-being during the fourth trimester. The placenta is a rich source of hormones and nutrients, and many believe reintroducing them to your body can support your recovery.

Safety is my top priority. I follow all safety and sanitation protocols to ensure the final product is prepared with the greatest care. It is important to know that placenta encapsulation is not regulated by a governing body, so choosing a professional who is trained and certified in safe handling practices is essential.

There are certain situations where encapsulation may not be recommended. This includes cases where there was a maternal or neonatal infection, if the placenta was sent to a pathology lab for testing, or if there was an improper storage of the placenta after birth. I will always have a thorough conversation with you about your birth experience and health history to ensure that encapsulation is a safe option for you.
